The Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi wrapped the Independence and National Day celebrations with a huge reception held on Monday evening.
Indian State Minister for External Affairs Gen (retd) VK Singh attended the reception as the guest of honour.
High Commissioner Syed Muazzem Ali received Gen Singh at the reception held at Bangladesh House, said a press release on Tuesday.
A smart military band from Dhaka played the national anthems of Bangladesh and India as the two stood at a tastefully decorated podium. Gen Singh also joined the High Commissioner and his wife Tuhfa Zaman Ali in cutting a cake celebrating Bangladesh’s 47th Independence Day.
Among the guests were members of parliament, politicians, diplomats, war veterans, including those who took part in Bangladesh’s 1971 liberation war, high civil and military officials, journalists, business people and city elite.
