UNB, Savar :
Muggers looted Tk 1.60 crore of a garment factory in Hemayetpur Industrial area of Savar on the outskirts of the capital on Tuesday.
Quoting witnesses, police said Zahid Hossain, an accountant of ‘Aboni Knitwear Limited’, along with four other employees was going to ‘Aboni Fashion’ situated at Hrishipara Padmar Mor by a private
car at noon with Tk 2.20 crore for disbursing the salaries of the garment workers for February.
When the car reached the Padmar Mor intersection, six miscreants, riding three motorcycles, intercepted the vehicle and fired gunshots to create panic. Later, they beat all the five inmates of the car and took away a bag containing Tk 1.60 crore. As the locals raised hue and cry, the hoodlums fled the scene leaving another bag full of Tk 60 lakh. On information, police and Rapid Action Battalion members visited the spot.
A case was filed with Savar Model Police Station in this connection, said officer-in-charge of the police station SM Quamruzzaman.
