Sylhet Correspondent :
BNP Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday accused the government of indulging in fascism and controlling the judiciary.
The BNP leader passed the remarks while speaking in the council of Sylhet city and district units of the party held in the Shaheed Soleman Hall of Muslim Sahittya Sangsad in the city.
“Murders, enforced disappearance and abductions have marked a sharp rise since the government has been in office. They are restoring to fascism and trying to control the judiciary,” he said.
He said that the government had alienated itself from the people by increasingly repressive activities on people in a bid to cling to power.
Accusing the government of besieging democracy, Mirza Fakhrul said, “The country is now in danger. We have to forge movement to save the country from this situation.”
He called upon his party’s leaders and workers to get united and make the BNP stronger to restore democracy under the leadership Khaleda Zia “It is possible to oust this regime through a strong movement at the grassroots level. After reorganising the party, BNP will wage a strong movement,” he said.
The BNP leader said that the government would not be able to eliminate BNP through repressive activities. “Instead, BNP will get stronger gradually with people’s support.”
