A mother allegedly committed suicide after poisoning her two children to death in Kaiba Digha village in Jashore’s Sharsha upazilla of Jashore district on Monday.
Family members claimed that her husband could not afford new clothes for her children for Eid .
The dead were identified as Hamida Khatun, 30, wife of tea vendor Ibrahim, took insecticide and also gave some to her two children , schoolgirl Sharifa Khatun 11 and Sohan Hossen 4 at their Chalitabaria Deegha village house around 12:00am, the victim’s family said.
Firoj Ahmed Tinku,chairman, Kaiba union Parishad said, She killed herself and her two children after having altercation with her husband Ibrahim over the inability to buy the children new clothes for Eid, said relatives and neighbours.
Whether Hamida’s death was suicide or murder will be known only after postmortem, said Moshiur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sharsha Police Station. We have already arrested three persons in this regard,” the OC added.
Jashore police super Mainul Haque visited the deceased’s house on afternoon.
