Mother held for killing son in city

Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested a woman along with her three associates on charge of killing her son.
The detectives conducted simultaneous drives in the capital and outside the city from early Thursday and arrested them. The arrestees were identified as Mariam Begum, 44, her lover Azizul Haque alias Aziz, 50, Manzurul Islam, 52, and Tofazzal Hossain, 65.
Demra Thana police recovered the body of Kamruzzaman, 30, son of Mariam, from Shukrosi on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway at about 11:45 pm on August 12.
Ashok Ali, 50, the father of the victim, identified the body of Kamruzzaman in Demra police station the following day. Later, a case was filed with the police station in connection with the killing on the following day.
Briefing reporters at DMP Media centre on Friday, Joint Commissioner (DB) Monirul Islam said the case was transferred to DB on September 1.
During investigation, the investigators came to know that the murder occurred due to extra-marital affair between Mariam Begum and Aziz. Acting on a tip-off, a team of DB police conducted a drive in
Khilgaon area on Wednesday night and arrested Aziz at about 12:30 am.
Following his statement, the detectives conducted simultaneous drives in city’s Demra and Mohakhali and then Kotwali thana area of Rangpur and arrested Mariam, Manzurul and Tafazzal respectively.
During preliminary interrogation, Aziz confessed that Mariam planed to kill her son Kamruzzaman as he had assaulted her mother two months back for maintaining an illicit relationship with Aziz.
Later, Aziz strangled Kamruzzaman to death with the help of Tofazzal and Manzurul on August 12 night, Joint Commissioner Monir said.
