Customs officials and Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in separate drives seized 33.79 kilograms of gold and arrested four persons at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong and Chakaria in Cox Bazar district on Monday.The custom officials found the 53 gold bars weighting 6.12 kilogram worth Tk. 2.65 crore through searching the luggage of a passenger named Anis Chowdhury who came to the airport by the same flight. He hailed from Boalkhali upazila of the same district.Mashiur Rahman Mandal, Assistant Commissioner (Customs) of the airport, said that a flight of ‘BG 048’ of Biman Bangladesh Airlines from Dubai landed at the airport around 7:45am.In a separate drive, Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) early Monday recovered more than 27 kilograms of gold ornaments from a house in Chakaria upazila and arrested three people in this connection. They has been identified as Nandaram Dhar(55), and his two sons Palash Dhar (25), and Sumon Dhar (22). Acting on authentic information, BGB members recovered 27.67 kilograms of gold in a raid from the house of local moneylender Nandaram Dhar at Chiringa Hindupara village. The gold were kept in 14 packets.Ruhul Amin, Deputy Commissioner of Cox’s Bazar said, Nandaran Dhar was arrested for keeping a huge amount of gold jewelry in his possession illegally.
