In the name of e-commerce business, a fraudulent multilevel marketing (MLM) company named ‘SPC World Express’ embezzled TK 268 crore from the customers in just 10 months.
They embezzled a vast amount of money from 22 lakh customers by tempting them of dividends in a ‘pyramid’ manner like Destiny, a company accused of fraud.
A special team of the Cyber and Special Crime Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested six members of the gang after getting specific allegations and information. The arrested are identified as Al Amin Prodhan, Managing Director & CEO of the company, Executive Officer Md. Jasim, Manager Manik Mia, Manager (Production) Md. Tanvir Ahmed, Assistant Manager (Production) Md. Pavel Sarker and Office Assistant Yasir Ullah.
DMP Additional Commissioner of Police (DB) AKM Hafeez Akhter confirmed the news to the media at a press conference held in the conference room of DMP’s Media and Public Relation Department on Tuesday.
He said, it was learned that an unlicensed company named ‘SPC World Express’ has been swindling crores of TK by offering online-based multilevel marketing in the name of e-commerce to the general people. After receiving such information, on October 26, four people were arrested in a raid from the company’s office at Kalabagan F-Haque Tower in the capital.
A case was also filed with the Kalabagan Police Station after the raid.
About the rise and activities of the company, Hafiz Akhter said, they started their journey with the e-commerce license on January 1 this year.
On the basis of information given by the detainees on Monday, Chief of the company Alamin and Executive Officer Jasim were arrested following a court order in the case. A Harrier car, two pickup vans, a laptop used in the server, a router, two passports and various documents of the company were seized from them.
It was also learned that both persons were the active members of Destiny in the past.
Earlier, this gang addressing websites http://main.spcworldexpress.com, Facebook pages and hundreds of posts on YouTube talking about e-commerce by alluring them of high commissions by trapping people.
Those interested can register by downloading a mobile app from the Google Play Store. At the time of registration, it was compulsory to pay TK. 1,200 for each ID in the mobile banking account (bKash, cash, rocket) number with reference to the uplink ID.
