UNB, Dhaka :
Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz has said he is upbeat about filling the vacuum created following a two-year ban on Shakib Al Hasan by the ICC, with one year of that is suspended, for failing to report corrupt approaches.
Miraz is one the seven players who have been called for the two-match Test series of the Tigers against India. They practised with the pink ball for a few days at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
“I really love to bowl together with Shakib bhai. He helps me find out the right areas for the different batsmen. At the same time, I always ask Shakib bhai for help when I need it. But he is not available for the India series, which came as a challenge for me. I’m focusing on doing well and filling up his gap in the upcoming series,” Miraz told the media on Thursday.
“We’re going to India six days before the first Test. We have to prepare well so that we can offer a big challenge for the hosts. We got Vettori (Daniel) as our spin-bowling coach. He knows the Indian condition better. I think his knowledge will help us do well in India enormously,” he added.
Bangladesh are set to play their first day-night Test during this series at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. It will be the first day-night Test for India as well. Miraz said they found no difference in playing with the pink ball.
“I didn’t find any difference in playing with the pink ball. I just want to adapt to this new ball properly. I think the coaches will advise us how to play well with the pink ball,” he said.
The 22-year-old all-rounder also said the condition of India will be tough for him as it has no big difference with the condition of Bangladesh. He will need only one or two days to adapt to the condition of India, he said.
Bangladesh got off to a flying start in their first bilateral series in India winning the first T20 of the three-match series by a big margin of seven wickets. After the T20 series, Tigers will lock horns in two-match Test series.
The first Test will be played in Indore from November 14 while the second and final Test will be hosted by Kolkata from November 22.
