A youth was arrested at Goainghat upazila in Sylhet early Tuesday on charge of raping a 7-year-old child.
The arrested was identified as Sharif Miah, 19, son of Tazammul Al from Hazrai village of Goainghat upazila. Locals said that the victim went to the grocery shop of Sharif Miah in the village at about 8:00am on Monday to buy chocolate, at that time, Sharif raped her behind the shop.
Later, the victim returned to her home with blood soaked dress and informed her parents about the incident.
Goainghat Officer-in-charge Parimal Dev said that the victim’s father filed a case in this regard with the police station.
He said that the victim was sent to the one-stop crisis centre of Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital on Monday afternoon and the suspected rapist was arrested from his home at Hazrai village early Tuesday.
The arrested was produced in the Sylhet Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on Tuesday noon and the court ordered to send the suspect to jail, the OC added.
