Ayesha Siddiqua Minni will retract her confessional statement given in connection with the murder of her husband Rifat Sharif, her lawyer Advocate Mahbubul Bari Aslam has said.
Advocate Aslam disclosed it to the media after meeting with her client Minni at Barguna jail on Wednesday afternoon.
Earlier in the day, her lawyers and Supreme Court lawyer Md Saifur Rahman met with her.
“We met Minni in the presence of Barguna Jail Super Anwar Hossain. We spoke to her about various aspects of her reported association in her husband’s murder case,” said Advocate Mahbubul Bari Aslam.
Minni said that she would retract her confessional statement, which was taken under duress,, the lawyer claimed.
Advocate Mahbubul also said Minni was sick and requested for medical treatment.
In this regard, the Jail Super said, “If required, the jail authority will make necessary arrangements for her treatment.”
Minni reportedly expressed her desire to continue studying in prison. The jail superintendant has said that if her father makes and appeal then necessary steps will be taken.
Rifat was indiscriminately hacked by a group of rowdy youths in Barguna in front of Minni on June 26.
On July 16, police arrested Minni. A court placed her on a five-day remand the following day.
On July 18, Barguna Superintendent of Police (SP) Maruf Hossain said Minni confessed to her involvement in the murder.
The next day, a Barguna court recorded her statement.
Till date, 15 people have been arrested in connection with Rifat Sharif’s murder. All of them have confessed to their crimes. Prime accused Nayan Bond was killed in a gunfight with police on July 2.
