The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has taken massive programme to cultivate Boro paddy in seven upazilas of the district in the current Boro season.
The DAE sources said, under the programme, a total of 55,401 hectares of land have been brought under the cultivation with the production target fixed at 2.18 lakh tonnes of rice.
But finally, the farmers of the district have cultivated Boro on 621,906 hectares of land.
Of the total, 52,823 hectors of land were brought under high yielding variety (HYV), 10,057 hectors under hybrid variety and 25 hectors under local variety of paddy.
Deputy Director of DAE M Rafikul Islam said the farmers of the district are making up their mind to put in their best efforts to achieve the targeted production of the paddy.
The field-workers and crop specialists of the DAE have started rendering their field-level services and exchanging views with the farmers to educate them about the modern method of Boro cultivation for achieving best yielding rate with minimum production cost, the deputy director added.
