7-murder case IOs, OCs among 79 N'ganj cops sent elsewhere

The Narayanganj district police has brought about a massive reshuffle into its administration on Sunday after a spate of abductions and killings in the district.
Forty sub inspectors and 39 assistant sub inspectors deputed in the district have been transferred, district Intelligence Officer Moinur Rahman said on Thursday.
“The transfer has been executed under orders from the deputy inspector general of Dhaka range in efforts to improve the law and order situation,” he said.
“The transfers have been executed under orders of Dhaka Range DIG”
“The transfers have been made within the Narayanganj district,” Bangladesh Police headquarters Senior Information Officer Kamrul Ahsan told The New Nation.
The reshuffle was made, under orders from Deputy Inspector General (Dhaka Range) Mahfuzul Haque Nuruzzaman, he said.
“The changes have been made in the backdrop of recent incidents in the district,” he said.
Seven bodies surfaced in the Sitalakhya river on April 30 that included the body of a Narayanganj Ward Counsillor Nazrul Islam and lawyer Chandan
Prime accused in the 7-murder Nur Hossain remains untraced so far though a case was filed in connection with the abduction and murder describing him as the key planner.
Autopsy report said they were murdered by professionals.
 Nazrul’s family has accused the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) of involvement in the murder, alleging that it took Tk 6.0 crore for the job.
RAB has formed a committee to probe the allegation, promising that it not try to protect any of its officials if they are found involved in the heinous crime.
There are frequent allegations against a section of police for their involvement in different crimes including extortions, abductions and even killing.
Many of them have amassed huge wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income.  
UNB adds: In a mass transfer, some 79 policemen of Siddhirganj and Fatullah police stations, and Detective Branch of police, including investigation officer of the seven-murder case, have been transferred.
The transferred policemen include officers-in-charge and inspectors (investigation) of the two police stations and the detective branch.
Confirming the transfer, Narayanganj police super Dr Khandaker Muhid Uddin said the transfers have been made as part of routine works.
Officer-in-charge of district DB Mahabubur Rahman and its inspector Abdul Awal, also the IO of the murder case, have been sent to Barisal Range, said sources at the SP office.
Narsingdi DB inspector Mamunur Rashid Mondal has been brought in and made investigation officer of the case.
OC of Siddhirganj police station Abdul Matin has been transferred to Tangail while that of Fatullah Akter Hossain to Munshiganj. OC of Narsingdi police station Asaduzzaman replaced Akter.
