The Association of Television Channel Owners (ATCO) organized a discussion on ‘Bangladesh O Chiranjeeb Bangabandhu’ marking the National Mourning Day on Wednesday at Tathya Bhaban auditorium in the city.
Awami League Advisory Council Member and central 14-party alliance spokesperson Amir Hossain Amu and Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud addressed the discussion as guests of honour with ATCO President Anjan Chowdhury in the chair. ATCO Vice President Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury conducted it.
Amu urged the mass media to stay beside the pro-liberation forces to keep the pace of ongoing development of the country.
He said the rajakars of 1971, killers of August 15, plotters of August 21 and patrol bombs terrorists are the ghosts of Pakistan. And they never want the development of Bangladesh, said the veteran politician of the ruling party, reports BSS.
Hasan said the killings of August 15 in 1975 and August 21 in 2004 were not only killings, those were extreme violations of human rights. That type of incident to fulfill political ambitions never happened in the last decades across the globe, he added.
He said Ziaur Rahman killed hundred of soldiers to prolong his stay in power. Is this not a violation of human rights?, Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary, posed a question.
The minister said the mass media could play a pivotal role to provide proper information to the society and to build the state.
He urged the mass media to present those violations of human rights to the countrymen.
Former chief information commissioner Dr Golam Rahman, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University vice chancellor Professor Dr Sharfuddin Ahmed and FBCCI president Md Jashim Uddin, among others, addressed the discussion.
