Entertainment Desk :
Bangladeshi musician, Maqsoodul Haque, is all set to perform today in Kolkata. It was back in the mid-1970s when Bangla band Mohineer Ghoraguli was gaining popularity in Kolkata.
Around the same time, in 1976, Maqsoodul Haque was starting his musical journey in Dhaka. His band, Feedback, was popular among the masses.
Bangla bands across the Indo-Bangladesh border, too, were on the rise at that time. Initially, Feedback was a small conglomeration of a few talented young people led by Maqsoodul, popularly known as Mac. From day one, its music tended to genres like pop, rock, jazz, blues and reggae. With time, Mac generated his own musical style. And after the release of their second album, there was no looking back for Feedback. However, due to socio-political unrest in Bangladesh, Mac left Feedback in 1996 to form dHAKA, which is popularly known as Maqsoodul O dHAKA now.
Today Mac will perform in Kolkata along with Sahajiya, folk band at the Kolkata Sabala Mela. Sahajiya and Mac will present their hit numbers together to enthrall the audience. Sahajiya’s vocalist, Deb Chowdhury, said, “We are thrilled to collaborate with Mac. He is a living legend. James, the late Ayub Bachchu and other musicians always considered him as their guru. Closer home, singer-composer-lyricist Rupam Islam, too, is influenced by Mac’s musical philosophy. It will be an honour to share the stage with him.” Melay Jai Re, Mousumi, Emni Kore Sobai Jabe and Aaj Tomar Chithi are a few hits of Mac’s illustrious musical career.
