A Netrokona court has sentenced a man to death for the murder of his sister-in-law.
The convict, 32-year-old Hanna Mia, was in court to hear Netrokona District Sessions Judge KM Rasheduzzaman Raza deliver the verdict on Monday.
Hannan, a resident of Kandapara village in Kalmakanda Upazila, stabbed his sister-in-law Nasima Khatun, 35,
following a family feud in June 2014, said acting Public Prosecutor Saiful Islam Pradip, quoting from the case dossier.
“Hannan and his brother Billal Mia engaged in a quarrel over ownership of a jackfruit tree. At one point, Hannan stabbed Billal’s wife Nasima with a knife leaving her severely injured. Nasima died on the way to hospital,” he said.
Nasima’s brother Joynal Mia started a murder case against Hannan. Police pressed charges in September that same year.
Hannan will also have to fine of Tk 20,000, according to Monday’s verdict.
