A Union Parishad member’s son was shot dead at Niamatpur village in Atghoria upazila on Sunday evening. The deceased was identified as Ilbaz Hossain,45, son of UP member Esem of the area. Witness Abdul Matin of the village said a group of armed miscreants attacked Ilbaz at an open field near
Niamatpur graveyard in the evening, firing multiple gunshots that left him dead on the spot. The killers soon fled the scene. Officer-in-Charge of Atghoria Police Station Anwar Hossain confirmed the incident. No-one has been identified as a suspect yet, although word in the remote rural community suggests Ilbaz had his rivals, who could and would resort to such action.
