Barrister Mainul Hosein, former Advisor to the Caretaker Government, has congratulated the leaders of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) as they became united in defence of law and judicial propriety over cancellation of his bail by a Metropolitan Magistrate.
In a press statement issued on Monday Barrister Mainul Hosein said, “I congratulate my fellow law leaders of the SCBA with gratitude and pride that for the first time they have become united in defence of law and judicial propriety over cancellation of my bail by learned Metropolitan Magistrate, Mr. Tofazzal Hossain, when my regular bail matter was not before him. They also met the Acting Chief Justice, His Lordship Hasan Foez Siddique, with a petition demanding judicial enquiry into the matter.”
“Later in the face of angry
protestation of the lawyers of the Supreme Court, the same magistrate granted me bail when the petition for my bail was heard and fixed for order on the following day by their Lordships of the High Court Division,” the statement added.
“It is an occasion of supreme happiness to me to find unity among the members of the SCBA irrespective of party considerations in upholding the cause of the law and justice system,” according to the statement.
“We know the judiciary is under pressure and many are victims of reckless abuse of the judiciary all over the country, yet as judges and lawyers, we cannot be a willing party to the judiciary becoming altogether non-existent,” read the statement.
