Maintaining sound health of lactating mothers stressed

Officials at a health camp have stressed on maintaining sound health of working lactating mothers for normal physical and mental growth of their babies.
They viewed this at the health camp jointly organized by the Phulbari upazila administration and upazila women affairs officer’s office at Phulbari upazila parishad auditorium in Dinajpur on Tuesday afternoon.
The event was arranged with assistance of the ‘Working Lactating Mother Assistance Fund’ of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs through the Directorate of Women Affairs to provide cost-free health services to the working lactating mothers.
Some 100 working mothers of the poorer section families of Phulbari municipality area were provided cost-free hand sanitizer, oral saline and powdered milk in the camp.
 With Phulbari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Reaz Uddin in the chair, Phulbari upazila chairman Md. Ataur Rahman Milton attended the event as the chief guest.
Vice-Chairmen of Phulbari upazila parishad Monju Roy Chowdhury and Niru Shamsunnahar, Panel Mayor of the Phulbari municipality Mamunur Rashid Chowdhury and Upazila Women Affairs’ Officer Rita Mandal were present as special guests.
Rita Mandal discussed various programmes being implemented by the present government for ensuring health services of the poor and working lactating mothers living both in urban as well as rural areas.
She urged lactating mothers to ensure breastfeeding of babies for six months and continue the same for two years alongside complementary foods to prevent child deaths under the age of five. The chief guest suggested lactating mothers to meet their nutrition properly by taking vegetables and other foods to smoothly provide breast milk to babies to ensure their proper mental and physical growths.
