Maier’s goal leads Germany past France 1-0

Leonie Maier scored in the 83rd minute, Almuth Schult made a couple of sparkling saves and Germany beat France 1-0 in the opening round of the SheBelieves Cup on Thursday night.
Maier scored from close range for her sixth goal in 36 international appearances.
Schult stopped a scoring chance by Eugenie Le Sommer late in the first half and made a save on Marie-Laure Delie during the second. She finished with three saves.
Sarah Bouhaddi had two saves for France in her 101st international match.
France plays the world champion U.S. and Germany faces England on Sunday at Nashville, Tennessee, in the second of three doubleheaders. The cup concludes Wednesday in Boca Raton, Florida when France goes against England and Germany meets the U.S.
