The Amar Desh Acting Editor Mahmudur Rahman was indicted in a grant case filed over non-submission of wealth statement to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday.
Judge Basudev Roy of the Third Special Judges Court of Dhaka on Monday fixed May 28 for the hearing after framing charge against Mahmudur Rahman.
Earlier, the court rejected a petition filed by Mahmudur Rahman’s lawyer Masud Ahmed Talukder seeking time saying that an appeal is pending with the High Court
Division in this regard. Meanwhile, State counsel Mosharraf Hossain Kajol said ACC Deputy Director Nur Ahmed filed the case on June 13, 2013.
The accused was asked to submit his wealth statement on April 13 and 19, 2010. Later, ACC Deputy Director Nur Ahmed filed the case with Gulshan Police Station against Mahmudur Rahman for not responding to the notice on June 13, 2013. Investigation Officer (IO) Nur Ahmed submitted the charge sheet of the case to the court on July 15, 2010.
At the dock, Mahmudur Rahman said he had been framed in a ‘false’ case for publishing a report on his paper on the corruption of the Prime Minister’s son and energy advisor Tawfiq-E-Elahi.
