Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, Bangladesh Chhatra Union, Bangladesh Udichi Shilpi Goshthi jointly organized a human chain in front of Jagannath University (JnU) main gate on Monday demanding punishment of the sexual harassment of a female student admission seekers at university.
Agitating women leaders alleged that during unit-2 (Humanities unit) admission test of JnU on Saturday a female admission seeker sexually harassed by some activists of JnU BCL unit. Getting complaint from the female student’s sister the university authority handed over of two students to police, who allegedly involved in sexual harassing. After few hours without taking any steps police released them.
Speaking in the human chain Publication Secretary of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad Saraban Tohura said, “We are here to raise social and public awareness. We want proper investigations and justice for all the incidents of sexual harassment.”
Maksuda Akter Laily, Director of Legal Advocacy, said, “The incidents cannot be prevented only by enforcing laws, we should wage a cultural movement to create social awareness.”
Among other, Organizing Secretary of legal advocacy of Dhaka Metropolitan Kanij Fatema, President of Sutrapur Thana Udici Shilpi Goshthi Abu Taher Bakul, Secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan Legal Aid Shamima Afroj Irin, Secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra Union JnU unit Rania Sultana Zumur spoke in the human chain.
