Armed muggers caught: Local foil bid to snatch Tk 15 lakh

Three muggers were caught red handed by locals while trying to snatch Tk 15 lakh from two bkash officials by firing with pistol at EPZ intersection at Sangolshi village on Nilphamari-Saidpur road under sadar upazila of the district at 12:15 pm on Thursday. Locals and police sources said that bkash officials Milon Roy, 25, a distribution sales officer and Rakifuzzaman, 28, a supervisor were going to Jaldhaka with motor bike from bKash distributor’s office named Messer’s Mobile Mart at Kalim intersection of Saidpur municipality under the district to give ‘loads’ to their agents. At that time they were also carrying Tk 15 lakh kept in a bag collected from different agents on the way.
When they reached the EPZ intersection at Sangolshi village, all on a sudden three young muggers riding on another motor bike intercepted them aiming pistol. One of the muggers fired a round bullet from his pistol to Milon Roy who was carrying the bag and the bullet hurt him at the left arm making him critically injured. The other muggers tried for some time to snatch the bag but failed as Milon though injured tried his best to keep the bag in his possession. At one stage of the scuffle, the motorbike carrying bKash officials fell on the motorbike of the muggers. As a result, both the bKash officials and three muggers fell on the road and bKash official Rakifuzzaman seized one of the muggers with pistol, making a hue and cry. The mugger tried to make him free by biting Rakifuzzaman at the fingers of his right hand making flesh to torn but could not free himself. The other two muggers tried to flee through the paddy fields beside the road towards the nearby village. Hearing the hue and cry of the bKash officials, hundreds of locals present in the EPZ intersection chased the muggers and finally caught them. All the three muggers were severely beaten by angry mob making them injured.
Law enforcers from Sadar Police Station rushed to the spot and arrested the criminals and brought them to local police station. The arrested muggers are Ahsanul Habib, 24, son of Abdul Kayum hailing from Rajbari village in Dinajpur district, Salimullah, 23, son of Sayed Ali of Nosorotpur Chirirbandor village also of Dinajpur district and the third one is Mamun, 22, son of Khalid hailing from Bagjana Khoddapara village in Joypurhat district.
The two injured bKash officials were admitted to Nilphamari district hospital.
Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Police Station Shahjamal Pasa said that police would interrogate the muggers to trace out more information. Preparation was on to file a case against the muggers at Sador Police Station while writing this report.
