An unknown skin disease has been developed among the koi fishes in the commercial farms of Muktagachha in Mymensingh for allegedly feeding contaminated food and high-powered medicine.
Local farmers said that the high-breed koi fishes, which are usually double to triple bigger size than local koi, are now under the attack of the mysterious infection where the upper part of their bodies becomes abnormal.
But some unscrupulous fish traders are now selling the infectious koi fishes in the market and people are buying these without paying attention to possible health hazards.
Koi fish, also known as climbing perch [koi mach], is a local fish breed of Bangladesh. It’s a popular fish to the people from the ancient time because of its very tasty and nutritious qualities.
Once upon a time koi fish was found in a plenty in the canal, small rivers, swamp, inundation land. But now the scenario has been changed. This fish has become very rare and also precious.
Koi fish is generally a freshwater fish. Its farming is also very easy, popular and profitable. And so, the commercial koi fish farming in pond is very popular nowadays.
