UNB, Narayanganj :Six days into the recovery of seven bodies in the district that sent a wave of shock across the country, the local administration on Tuesday said there has been little progress so far in the investigation into the case filed over the gruesome murders.”Though we (police) have made a little bit of progress in the investigation, that’s not enough. It’ll take time to reach the destination on the basis of what we have achieved so far,” Police Super of Narayanganj Dr Khandaker Mohid Uddin told reporters at his office at noon.Asked if the accused sneaked out of the country, Dr Khadakaer Mohid Uddin said they do not have information that the accused fled the country.Over investigation into the alleged involvement of RAB personnel in the incident, he said, “It’s not our duty to investigate against RAB. We didn’t receive any instruction about investigation against RAB.”The High Court on Monday ordered the government to keep the elite force from probing the incidents and asked the government to form a seven-member committee headed by an additional secretary of the public administration ministry to investigate the brutal murders.On April 27, Nazrul Islam, his three associates and driver, were abducted by miscreants from Fatullah area of the city. Hours after their abduction, senior lawyer at district Judge’s Court Chandan Kumar Sarker and his driver were also abducted on their way to Dhaka.On April 28, a day after Nazrul and six others were abducted in broad daylight, Nazrul’s wife Selina Islam filed an abduction case accusing Nur, Iqbal, Hashu, Siddhirganj AL leader Haji Yasin, Aminul Islam Raju and Anwar Hossain.Three days into their abduction, the bodies of six people, including that of Nazrul and Chandan Kumar, were recovered from the Shitalakhya and Dhaleshwari rivers on April 30.Besides, another body, believed to be of Jahangir, the car driver of Nazrul Islam, was recovered from the Shitalakhya River on May 1.To make progress in the case, the licenses of 11 firearms of Nur Hossain, prime accused in Nazrul murder case, and his seven associates were cancelled on Monday, Dr Khandker Mohid Uddin said, adding that they are looking into how much the firearms were used.He added that they are trying to recover the firearms.Also Tuesday, Nazrul’s wife Selina Islam Beauty, his brother Abdus Salam and father Shahidul Islam gave depositions to the SP at his office.In the recorded statement, Shahidul Islam alleged that Abu Sufian, a powerful contractor of Narayanganj City Corporation, was involved in the murders.In support of his earlier claim that some RAB men had abducted and murdered his son in exchange for Tk 6 crore, Shahidul said the money was transacted through private banks.Shattered, Selina Islam demanded exemplary punishment of her husband’ s killers.In another development, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), in an eviction drive, demolished the illegal structures erected by Nur Hossain and his brother Nur Uddin alias Judge Miah grabbing lands in the river Shitalakkhya under Kanchpur Bridge.BIWTA deputy director Alamgir Kabir, joint director M Zainal Abedin and executive magistrate Abul Quashem M Shahin coordinated the drive as per the High Court directives against the illegal establishments in the river lands.During the drive, 60 jetties, 50 warehouses and 25 offices were razed to the ground.Besides, district lawyers threatened to lay a siege to the Rab-11 office on May 11 (Sunday) if the accused in the seven-murder case are not hunted down by the time.President of Narayanganj Bar Association Advocate Sakhawat Hossain Khan came up with the threat at a rally held in front of the District Bar Bhaban at noon.The lawyers also observed a one-hour work abstention protesting the incident.
