Left Parties launch new alliance

Major left leaning political parties on Tuesday launched an alliance for strengthening democratic movement.
The new alliance comprising eight left political parties was announced at a press conference in Maitri Auditorium of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) Central Office on Tuesday.
CPB President Mujahidul Islam Selim, Socialist Party of Bangladesh (SPB) General Secretary Khalequzzaman and SPB (Marxist) central leader Shudhangshu Chakraborty, Democratic Revolutionary Party (DRP) General Secretary Mushrefa Mishu, United Communist League (UCL) General Secretary Mosharraf Hossain Nannu, Revolutionary Workers Party (RWP) General Secretary Saiful Huq, Ganasanghati central leader Abul Hassan Rubel, Bangladesher Samajtantrik Andolan (BSA) convener Hamidul Haque and others attended the press conference.
The eight left parties are CPB, SPB, the Democratic Left Alliance partners namely SPB(Marxist), RWP of Bangladesh, Ganasanghati Andolan, DRP, UCL and BSA are the components of the new alliance.
The new alliance framed five-point charter of demands, including establishing the democratic rights of the people, resisting corruption, loot and grabbing, fulfilling the basic demands of the common people, ensuring rights of the people on the national resources and sovereignty of the country.
The alliance will hold countrywide demonstrations on August 9, protesting against the failures of the government in checking corruption.
Saiful Huq, General Secretary of the RWP, read out a written speech where he said that the country was facing a serious political crisis.
He said that the ruling Awami League led government had failed to meet the hope and aspirations of the people who were eagerly waiting for a third alternative political force.
The new alliance will work for establishing the rights of the common people, translating their aspirations beyond influence of the two big political parties Awami League and BNP, Saiful said.
Mujahidul Islam Selim, the President of the CPB said that the successive ruling parties had failed to ensure good governances in the country.
He called on the left parties and its well-wishers to join the alliance for establishing rights of people.
Khalequzzaman, General Secretary of the SPB in his welcome address said that the left parties could fulfil the aspirations of the people.
