Paris-based Le Méridien, an international hotel brand has been officially launched in the capital with a view to ensuring world-class hospitality services for the local and foreign tourists.
Amin Ahmad, local stakeholder of the hotel declared its official journey through a press conference in the ballroom of the hotel on Sunday. Art enthusiasts and creative minds gathered in the ballroom to celebrate first night of Le Méridien.
Addressing the briefing, Amin Ahmad, Chairman of Best Holdings Ltd, said that Starwood is associated with crisp professional hospitality, while Le Méridien is a brand that personlises the experience for guests enhancing on elements of local hospitality. The combination seemed right for Bangladesh where the industry is now on the cusp of evolution.
“We have started to construct the hotel since 2006 but it delayed to go for final operation due to political instability and poor infrastructure. So far, we invested $400 million to run the hotel,” he said, underscoring the need for establishing more international hotels to facilitate the tourism business across the country.
“We are going to establish Le Méridien Resort at Valuka, Mymensingh,” he informed the gathering.
Ashwani Nayar, the hotel’s General Manager, who has been living in Dhaka for the past two years could confidently say, “I have come to observe that Dhaka is evolving. Always an enclave of rich cultural experience, the city is embracing modern forms of expression every day. “We are excited to unlock the latest destination of Le Méridien in Dhaka through the First Night celebrations, bringing a passion for contemporary arts to life amid a bustling city,” he said.
Ashwani Nayar said, Bangladesh has a lot of opportunities to flourish its tourism sector. Hospitality management is an integral part to flourish the tourism sector. More world standard class hotel can attract the foreigners to visit in Bangladesh, he said.
Around 700 million foreigners visit India every year, but only one million foreigners visit Bangladesh, he informed.
He stressed for improving domestic tourism places of the country to facilitate the sector.
“Bangladesh’s economy is gradually increasing which is impressive, so, it is the high time for Bangladesh to provide international standard hospitality services for the visitors.”
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said the government has declared the year 2016 as the tourism year and we are sincerely working for the expansion of tourism sector.
Over 500 dignitaries from political, business and the art world gathered to experience the French-brand’s signature programmes intertwined with local arts and culture.
The guests enjoyed a lively performance by popular folk band, Joler Gaan. Le Méridien Dhaka also invited members of the international media to explore the city through its 3C Discovery Tour.
