The government has imposed strict restrictions on public movement in seven districts from Tuesday till June 30 amid rising Covid-19 cases and deaths across the country.
In a notice on Monday, the Cabinet Division announced the restrictions for Manikganj, Narayanganj, Munshiganj, Gazipur, Madaripur, Rajbari and Gopalganj district, those surround the capital.
In line with the government directives, authorities have suspended launch and speedboat services on the Shimulia-Banglabazar route during the period.
But, ferry movement will remain out of purview of the restriction to transport emergency vehicles.
Of the two ferry ghats, Shimulia situated in Munshiganj district and Banglabazar in Madaripur. Both the districts came under the restrictions.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC)’s Shimulia ghat manager Shafayet Ahmed said as per the government directives, ferries will be operated on a limited scale from Tuesday.
Ferries will only transport raw material, goods-laden and patient-carrying vehicles, he added.
He also said at present 16 ferries are in operation. The number will be reduced from Tuesday.
