BNP Standing Committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed on Sunday said, absence of representative government begets militancy.
“But it is free and fair election, that can eliminate militancy,” he said.
Moudud Ahmed said it while speaking at a discussion in the auditorium of the Institution of Engineers in the city. BNP organised the discussion marking the International Anti-Oppression Day.
BNP Vice-Chairman Selima Rahman presided over the program. The party’s central leader Ahmed Azam Khan, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon and
Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, among others, delivered lectures. Moudud said, there is no accountability of the government. This is the reason that the forced disappearances are on rise.
The BNP leader promised of stopping forced disappearance, extra-judicial killings and imprisonment if voted to power again.
The senior BNP leader also alleged that Awami League promised in its 2008 election manifesto of stopping extra-judicial killings. But they forgot that after coming to power.
He also claimed that the BNP hated extremism and militancy. But, the government is trying to label BNP as an extremist organization by giving false accusations against the party.
