Lightning killed fisherman
A man was killed in a lightning strike in Kendua upazila of Netrakona on Friday night .
The victim was identified as Saidur Rahman. ( 45) a resident of Battra village under Chirang union of Kendua upazila.
Eye witness informed that, Saidur was fishing in a beel near his house in the evening. At that time a lightning struck on him, leaving him critically injured.
Later, locals rescued him and took to Kendua Upazila Health Complex while duty doctors declared his dead.
Officer in Charge (OC) in Kendua Police Station Ali Hossain confirmed the matter.
Janmashtami celebrated
Janmashtami, the birth of lord Sri Krishna and one of the major festivals of the Hindu community was observed on Friday with pomp, gaiety and due religious fervour.
In Kishoreganj, different religious, cultural and social organisations also took identical programmes in observance of the Janmashtami.
Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad in Kishoreganj district committee arranged a discussion meeting on the teaching and ideals of lord Sri Krishna at local Kalibari premises on Friday morning.
Police Super( SP) in Kishoreganj Md. Rasel Sheikh attended as chief guest and Deputy Secretary & Deputy Director of Local Government ( LG) Md.Habibur Rahman as special guest while Hindu kallan Trusti Advocate Bhupendra Bhowmick Dholon presided over.
Later, a colour full rally brought out in the town on Friday morning marking the lord Sri Krishna.
Disable women violated
Police have arrested a man on the charge of raping a disabled woman (27) in Hossainpur of Kishoreganj on Friday night.
The arrested rapist named iLutfar Rahman (40), a residence in Hossionpur town.
According to Police and the victim’s family sources, Lutfar Rahman has been raping the woman several times by making a promised of marriage. At one stage the young woman became pregnant. The young woman’s family can understand this by seeing the physical changes. The girl’s parents later told the matter to local dignitaries. However, after not getting any remedy Thursday evening, the mother of the girl became a plaintiff and filed a case under the Women and Child Torture Act at Hossainpur Police Station.
Students narrowly escape robbery
At least 14 students of Dhaka University (DU) have narrowly escaped robbery in haor after they made a phone call on national emergency number ‘999’ on Thursday midnight Though one of the student, claiming anonymity, confirmed the matter. .
However,. Sub Inspector ( SI) Mohammad Enamul haque of Chamraghat Naval Police Outpost said that the students were rescued from haor on Thursday midnight and helped them reach Kishoreganj. According to Chamraghat Naval Police Outpost, some 14 students went to visit all-weather road of the haor area after Thursday afternoon. They came from from Balikhola of Karimganj by a trawler and got down at Mithamoin. There, they were walking on all-wether road. The trawler carrying them got stuck near the Hasonpur bridge due to strong wind around 9:00pm while they were returning. Sensing the matter, a gang of robbers tried to siege them. then, one of the students called on 999 and sought help. A team led by SI Mohammad Enamul Haque rushed to the spot. Sensing the presence of police, the robbers fled the scene.
Police also said, after getting message from 999, Police rushed to the spot immediately. The gang left the scene after they sensed the presence of police. We rescued two of the students who drowned in water from fear. Later, all the 14 students were rescued. Of them, 12 are of Dhaka University and two of Gurudhayal Govt. College.
