A mid-ranking leader of ruling Awami League (AL), who was abducted from his city residence on Friday afternoon, was found near Kanchan bridge about nine hours after his abduction.
He was forced to sign two Tk 300-stamp papers and two blank sheets before he was freed at Purbachal around 12:30am on Saturday.
“I was compelled to give eight signatures both in English and in Bangla on the stamp papers and the white sheets”, said Parvez to the media at his home on Saturday.
Earlier, a group of miscreants came out of a car and hit him in the head with a pistol before shoving him into the car. “Soon after they picked me up inside the car, they blindfolded me and put a black mask over my face,” the AL leader said.
“They did not beat me, but handcuffed and used chloroform to make me senseless,” he said.
Parvez was seated in the rear of the of the car and he became senseless in a minute or two, he recalled.
After a few hours, when he regained senses, he noticed it was already dark. His kidnappers, who could not be identified, gave him a packet of biriyani and some water, of which he only managed to drink little water, he said.
Later, around half an hour before he was released near the Kanchan Bridge in Rupganj, Narayanganj, the kidnappers went out of the car to get the stamp papers and two blank sheets keeping him there. Later, they asked him to sign on the stamp papers and white sheets, he said.
When he protested, the kidnappers threatened him that they would kill him in crossfire.
Around 11:40pm, he was free, Parvez said.
A few minutes after he was dropped, Parvez removed his blinds and walked towards a fuel store from where he called his wife.
In a query, he said that he had no enmity over business dispute. He did not go to his local area after vandalism of his car and firing point at him over political rivalry around one year ago.
His wife Tahmina Parvez said that they picked him up from the 300 Feet street where the abductors dropped him after driving around, according to the family.
His nephew Abrar Samshad Zaki said Parvez could not say much about the abductors since he was blindfolded.
Biplob Kumar Sarker, Deputy Commissioner (Tejgain Zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said, Parvez, a former chairman of Titas Upazila Parishad, lives in the house N0. 30, Road No. 27, at Block C, Lalmatia, Dhaka.
“The witnesses told us that the abductors were carrying guns and wireless sets. We are not sure whether they are from any law-enforcing agency,” Biplob said.
The family rescued him with the help of the police later and brought him back home around 12:30am on Saturday, Mohammadpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jamal Uddin Mir said.
A man exchanged pleasantries and shook hands with Parvez when the ruling party leader was about to enter his home, Omar Ali, a security guard at the residence,
Another person then approached and the two forced Parvez into a car, Omar added.
