Khas land distributed among 22 landless ethnic families in Pirganj

Local district administration distributed khas land among ethnic 22 landless minority families at different villages in Pirganjupazilaof Thakurgaon districton on Wednesday.
The lands were distributed under the programme titled ‘Promotion of Rights for Ethnic Minority and Dalit Improvement Programme’ (PREMDIP) while PirganjUpazila administration and Echo Social Development Organization (ESDO) with the help of HEKS Switzerland have assisted the Thakurgaon district administration to implement the programme in the north-western region of Bangladesh.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rev) Abdul Wahed distributed documents of 158 decimals of khas land to the members of the indigenous families at a ceremony as chief guest following a discussion.
During the distribution programmeChairman of the upazilaparishadZiaulHaque Zia and UpazilaNirbahi Officer (UNO) of PirganjUpazila ABM Iftekharul IslamKhandakar, upazila Vice-Chairman AbulKashem, female vice-chairman Parul Begum, Market Development Officer of HEKS Bangladesh country office NurunNahar joined the programmewere present as special guests.Among the others present in the programme were Saidpur UP Chairman EkramulHaque, Jabarhat UP Chairman SabirHossenShafi, PirganjUpazila Press Club president MeherElahi, general secretary JaynalAbedin Babul, Pirganj Sub-Registrar Md. Nurul Hakim, Tahshildars of different Unions, Pirganjadibashiunnoyan forum presidentMaikel Hasda, Co-ordinator of PREMDIP programmeSerajusSalekin and upazila manager Shah Md. AminulHaque.
Of them, documents of 31 decimals of land were distributed among nine ethnic families at Bhabanipur village UnderSaiedpur Union, 19 decimals among four at Paria villageunderPirganj Union and 108 decimals among nine at Georadangi village underJabarhat Union of the upazila.
After receiving the land documents, smiling ShukurmoniHazda, 42, of Georadangi village and Sabina Mormu, 40, of Paria village said now nobody can evict them from their homesteads.
