Ehsanul Haque Jasim :BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is now planning to visit different parts of Dhaka city and Chittagong ahead of the three city corporation elections — Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Chittgaong City Corporation (CCC). Sources said the BNP chief is likely to hold two separate grand rallies in Dhaka and Chittagong where she will seek vote for the party-backed candidates in the city elections.”According to the law, Khaleda Zia has no problem to take part in the election campaign for any candidate as she is now not an elected representative. So, she has taken the city election as a strategy. She will use it to reorganise the party men through holding rallies in Dhaka and Chittagong where she will also seek votes for the party-backed candidates,” said a BNP leader. When asked, BNP Vice-Chairman Selima Rahman said that the BNP chief is still undecided in this regard. Taking part in rallies and other public programme is her democratic and constitutional rights. So, she can hold rallies or any other public programmes. But she is still under siege. If she comes out of the office, she will think over the matter, she added. Khaleda Zia has been staying in her Gulshan office for over three months. Police barred her to come out of the office on January 3. Having failed to come out of the office again on January 5, she announced the ongoing blockade programme. The BNP chief may leave the office today (Sunday) to appear in the court to seek bail in two graft cases. From the court, she may come in the Nayapaltan central office of the party, said party insiders. The Nayapaltan office was opened on Saturday, three months after the law enforcement agencies allegedly locked it.
