UNB, Dhaka :
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Monday filed an appeal with the Supreme Court against the High Court order rejecting the petition filed by her challenging the legality of the Niko graft case.
Khaleda Zia’s counsel Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon said his client also filed an appeal to scrap the trial proceedings at the lower court.
Earlier on June 18, the High Court rejected a petition filed by Khaleda challenging the legality of the Niko graft case against her. Besides, the court asked the former prime minister to surrender before the court within two months of
 receiving the court order.
On November 30, a court granted conditional bail to the BNP chairperson in the graft case when she surrendered before the Special Judge’s Court-9 with a bail petition. The court also fixed December 28 as the next date for hearing on the case.
The ACC on December 9, 2007 filed the Niko graft case against Khaleda and four others in connection with a Tk 137.77 loss to the national exchequer caused by the signing of an oil-gas exploration agreement with Canadian company Niko during BNP rule. On May 5, 2008, it submitted a chargesheet against 11 people.
