The two-day TRESemmé Khadi Festival, organised by the Fashion Design Council of Bangladesh (FDCB), was held at Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel in Dhaka on December 11 and 12. Eighteen designers from Bangladesh and six designers from Kolkata participated in the event.
Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor MP inaugurated the festival, while President of Gandhi Ashram Trust Dr Debapriya Bhattacharya and Norwegian High Commissioner Merete Lundemo also spoke on the occasion.
While talking about the festival Asaduzzaman Noor in his speech said, “The demand for locally produced clothes is growing. This exhibition will definitely play a role towards the rebirth of popularity of this clothing item.” He also suggested that such exhibitions can also be organised in larger public places, where people from all facets of the society can be made aware and have the opportunity to see the products.
On the first day of the festival, it showcased the heritage and various aspects of Khadi. Besides, a fashion show featuring Khadi attires was arranged on the occasion.
On the other hand, the second day programme also included a fashion show by Bangladeshi and Indian fashion designers, along with a discussion regarding Khadi in which students of the fashion school participated.
The fashion show featured Chandana Dewan, Biplob Saha, Humaira Khan, Samiya Rafique, Shabana Ali, Tenzing Chakma, Maria Sultana, Rifat Reza Raka, Lipi Khandkar from Bangladesh. The Indian participants from India were Parmita Banarjee, Sanjukta Roy and Shantanu Das.
Bangladeshi designers adorned Khadi dresses with various Bengali motifs such as Nokshi Pitha, Shondesh, Hand fan, Sheetal Paati, Alpona Noksha, etc. The Khadi Festival was sponsored by TRESemmé and co-sponsored by City Bank Ltd, Green Delta Insurance Co Ltd, Bengal Group Ltd, Square Toiletries Ltd and Selor. Maasranga Television was the media partner of the event. n
