Keraniganj jewelery traders in panic over broad daylight robbery

Gold business has become another name of panic in Keraniganj area recently. Robbers are attacking big jewellery shops in filmy style in broad daylight and looting gold ornaments and taking cash taka worth millions. Many accidents are also happening while preventing the gangs. Shopkeepers and employees are being shot. But the members of law enforcement are silent.
According to locals, robberies are repeated in this area in the same manner even in the broad daylight.
Despite the continuous occurrence of robberies, the law and order forces are sitting idly by. Even after filing the case, the accused persons are not arrested, the looted gold ornaments and money are not recovered despite elapsing 15 days. Although there were police patrols around the areas, there was no patrol at the time of the incident.
Even after two weeks have passed in the case of robbery at a jewelery shop in South Keraniganj of Dhaka, the police have not recovered the looted gold ornaments and arrested anyone involved.
The robbery happened at New Al-Amin Jewelers of Naseeruddin Super Market in Abdullahpur area of South Keraniganj last Wednesday around 2:15. The miscreants looted a huge amount of gold ornaments by throwing hand grenades and shooting gold trader Swapan Mondal (45) in broad daylight.
 In this incident, on August 18, Swapan Mondal’s younger brother Biplab Mondal, the owner of New Al-Amin Jewellers, filed a case with the police station as the plaintiff.
According to the sources of Dakshin Keraniganj police station, in the case, there is an allegation of hand grenade explosion at New Al-Amin Jewelers and robbery of 500 bhori gold by shooting the owner of the shop. Six unidentified people have been accused in the case.
Abdullahpur Bazar Gold Traders Association General Secretary Bhola Kundu said, “Those who have committed this kind of crime, it is planned. Swapan Mondal, also president of our association, was shot by miscreants and looted gold from his shop. We strongly condemn this incident. He further said, “Though 15 days have passed since the incident, the law and order forces have not been able to recover the looted goods and arrest anyone involved. We demand immediate arrest of the people involved in this incident.
Govindra Sarkar, the owner of Govindra Jewellers, said that robberies are repeated in the same manner in broad daylight. It seems that an organized gang has targeted the businessmen of Keraniganj. However, no police action is visible to arrest them. Even after a year, the looted gold has not been recovered. Kanai Chandra Mridha, owner of Kankan Jewellers, said that although the police outpost is near from Kalatia Bazar, they are not available in times of danger. Every time after the incident they come only with various assurances.
Suman Das, owner of Deepa Jewellers, said, “There are at least 40 goldsmith shops in Abdullahpur Bazar area, including seven shops in Nasir Market.
On August 18’s incident was planned. We gold traders are in serious panic. ” We want the administration to conduct a fair investigation and arrest the real culprits and recover the looted goods, he added.
In this regard, when asked Md Asaduzzaman, Police Supernatant of Dhaka district, told the New Nation that we have a progress in the investigation. We have already identified the members of the gang. We hope, within very short time we will be able to arrest the culprits, he said.
Dakshin Keraniganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Shahzaman said that efforts are underway to arrest the people involved in the robbery of gold ornaments.
Dhaka District Additional Superintendent of Police (Keraniganj Circle) Shahabuddin Kabir said, ‘After the incident, we have collected all the CCTV camera footage of Abdullahpur Bazar area. These footages are being examined. Law enforcement forces are conducting separate operations at different places.
