UNB, Dhaka :Jatiya Party MP Kazi Firoz Rashid on Tuesday said his party is not seen as a real opposition in the parliament.Standing on point of order in the House he expressed his dismay after no one from JP has been picked up as chairman of the recently formed parliamentary standing committees.”It is very shocking,” he said. As the Jatiya Party is not treated as a real opposition, the party fared poorly in the recently held upazila elections, though the upazila system was introduced by its leader HM Ershad, he added. The images of Jatiya Party MPs have suffered badly before the party’s leaders and activists, he said. Separately, Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud taking part in the thanks-giving motion on the President’s speech said if the January-5 parliamentary election would not have held, an unconstitutional government would have come to power. He criticized the civil society members who are advocating for inclusive and participatory elections. “What is participatory election? The election held in line with the Constitution is a participatory one.”The minister said any unconstitutional government can not be allowed in the name of the democracy.About Teesta water flow, he said it is true the water flow in the Teesta River has slowed. But the Teesta water sharing treaty would be signed as Bangladesh and India had earlier already signed a MoU in this regard.
