A Jubo League (JL) leader was stabbed to death by rivals near the North Bengal Sugar Mill gate at Bahadipur in Natore district on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Zahurul Islam, 36, Organising Secretary of the Jubo League, Lalpur unit,” reports our District Correspondent quoting Lalpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nazrul Islam.
Zahurul’s opponent Gopalpur Municipality Councillor Masud Rana, Jubo League activist Manju and 10 other men attacked him with sharp weapons, the police official said
“The attackers severed the veins of Zahurul’s hands and legs. They also slashed his head multiple times. The locals took him to Lalpur Upazila Health Complex and then to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries,” the OC said.
Nazrul said, “The police have inspected the crime scene. The murder could be the result of a conflict. Legal action will be taken if charges are laid.”
Besides, the attackers injured his friend Pranta Hossain also. He was declared out of danger at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital.
Zahurul was ambushed near the North Bengal Sugar Mills around 11:00am, allegedly led by another Jubo League leader Muktar Hossain, local sources said.
Zahurul had longstanding feud with Masud over establishing supremacy in Gopalpur Municipality area, they said. Gopalpur Municipality Councilor Masud’s fellows stabbed Zaharul’s head and other parts of his body, according to them.
