JS committee discusses market monitoring

The parliamentary standing committee on the ministry of commerce in its meeting on Sunday discussed different issues, including the activities of the Department of National Consumer Rights Protection and Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF)-2017.
Committee chairman Md Tajul Islam Chowdhury chaired the meeting while committee members commerce minister Tofail Ahmed, Md Motahar Hossain, Waresat Hossain Belal, Md Sanwar Hossain, Mohammad Hasan Imam and Laila Arjuman Banu attended it, said a press release.
The meeting was informed that the prices of essential goods remain within the purchasing capacity of the people. A total of 14 market monitoring teams have been working in the Dhaka metropolitan area under the commerce ministry and two teams monitor six markets every day.
Mobile courts also conduct operations in markets of metropolitan cities, districts and upazilas and 24,126 establishments have been fined a total of Tk 17, 52,09,500 till February, 2017.
The meeting was also informed that different organizations got export orders worth Tk 243 crore and products worth Tk 113 crore were sold in the recently concluded 22nd DITF.
