PM’s ICT Affairs Adviser Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed Joy is going to receive ‘ICT for Development Award’ in New York on Monday. Joy, the only son of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has been nominated for the award in recognition of his tremendous contribution to empowerment of
the people of Bangladesh through the implementation of ‘Digital Bangladesh’ initiative, Awami League says in its website on Saturday.
World Organisation of Governance and Competitiveness, in association with tri-nation treaty body Plan Trifinio, international NGO ‘Global Fashion for Development’ and School of Business of the University of New Haven, Connecticut, will give the award also recognising his outstanding leadership and commitment towards ICT and Competitiveness as a tool for Sustainable Development.
The organisers are going to present the award to anyone for the first time.
Actor Robert Davi will hand over the award at a High-level Reception in support of the first anniversary of the adoption of the UNSDGs and the Importance of ICT and Competitiveness as a Tool for Sustainable Development.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, ministers and high-level political leaders from Bangladesh and other countries, UN senior officials, heads of international organisations, private sector and civil society leaders, celebrities and representatives from major media outlets are likely to be present at the event.
An ICT expert, Joy spearheaded the ‘Digital Bangladesh’ campaign as an electoral slogan of Awami League before December 2008 polls and played a significant role in developing the country’s ICT sector.
