Journos submit memo to Home Ministry for Utpal’s return

The Journalists from different media houses on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to the Home Ministry demanding prompt steps for the safe return of journalist Utpal Das.
The journalist leaders of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) and
Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) handed over the memorandum to the Ministry at 1pm.
Earlier in the morning, a rally was held in front of the Jatiya Press Club organised by Narsingdi Journalists Association. About two hundred journalists from different newspapers, televisions and online media took part in the rally.
BFUJ President Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul and Secretary General Omar Faruque, DUJ President Shaban Mahmud and General Secretary Sohel Haider Chowdhury, DRU General Secretary Mursalin Nomani and DRU former General Secretary Manir Hossain Liton, addressed the rally, among others.
Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul requested the government to take immediate step for the safe return of journalist Utpal Das.
DUJ President Shaban Mahmud said it is very unfortunate that Utpal Das is yet to be traced. The law enforcers’ agencies cannot ignore their responsibility in finding out Utpal Das.
Journalist Utpal Das, a senior reporter of Purboposhchim.com remains missing since October 10.
The victim’s father Chitta Ranjan Das and his editor Khugista Nur-e-Naharin filed complaints with the Motijheel Police Station respectively in connection with the incident.
Since then, the colleague of Utpal Das have been demonstrating for his safe return. Journalists also have been arranging a human chain every day in front of the Dhaka reporters’ Unity for Utpal.
