Journalists of the country will hold demonstrations on January 18 next demanding immediate announcement of ninth wage board for both print and electronic media.
In a meeting of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) executive committee on Sunday in Jatiya Press Club with BFUJ President Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul in the chair, the journalist leaders expressed their strong annoyance as information ministry failed to announce the wage board within the timeframe fixed by it during a discussion with the leaders earlier.
They said the ministry is not sincere for the journalist community’s causes which is not expected from a democratically elected government.
In every four- years journalists have to get a new wage board but this time the tenure has already exceeded seven months covering the specified 4 years, they added.
BFUJ Secretary General Omar Faruque, Vice-Presidents Jafor Wajed and Shahidul Alam, Joint Secretary General Amiya Ghatak Pulack, Treasurer Madhusudan Mandal, President of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) Shaban Manhmud, General Secretary Sohel Haider Chowdhury, BFUJ executive member Syed Istiaq Reza, Mofida Akbar, Swapan Dasgupta and Shafiuddin Ahmed Bitu, among others, spoke in the meeting.
The meeting urged all the affiliated unions to hold the demonstrations on the streets in front of their respective offices at 11 am on that day. In Dhaka, the programme will be held on the street in front of Jatiya Press Club at the same time.
