Journo Obaidul Haque passes away

Elderly journalist M Obaidul Haque, died of old age complications at a city clinic early yesterday .
He was 87, family and clinic sources said. Renowned journalist M Obaidul Haque was suffering from various old age diseases and he was kept at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital since a couple of week . Later he was on life support in the clinic since last one week The death of elderly journalist cast a pall of gloom in the media as well as socio cultural arena.
Obaidul Haq left behind five sons, two daughters, a large number of professional colleagues, host of relatives and well wishers to mourn his death. He stepped into journalism with joining reporting section of the Daily Azadi and retired as Chief Reporter after serving for long 40 years in the news paper. He was the elected president of Chittagong Press Club and Chittagong Union of Journalists (CUJ) and discharged duties as member of Bangladesh Press Council.
A close associate of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Obaidul Haque also played a vital role in trade union activities as a senior member of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ).
The first namaz-e-janaza of Obaidul Haque was held at Chittagong Press Club (CPC) premises at 12:30 pm today.
Apart from members of the journalist community, Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain, Expatriate Welfare Minister Nurul Islam B.Sc, leaders of different political parties, professional bodies and cultural activists attended the janaza.
