A Dhaka court yesterday granted bail to Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury, Secretary General of Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity, in an extortion case.
But he cannot be released right now as he is facing another case filed with Kafrul Police Station under the Explosive Substances Act. He was remanded for one day and the hearing on September 13.
Magistrate Md Mazharul Haque of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed the order on Tuesday.
Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua and Ripon Kumar Barua moved the bail
petition for Mozammel in the court.
Police arrested Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury from his Sanarpar house in Narayanganj around 3:00 am on September 6, two days after the extortion case was filed with Mirpur Police Station.
In the case statement, complainant Md Dulal alleged that Mozammel, claiming to be a transport leader, demanded Tk two lakh from him, and he gave Mozammel Tk 10,000 in front of Sony Cinema Hall in Mirpur area on September 3.
Mozammel was placed on a day’s remand for interrogation, hours after he was arrested.
