JCD man killed in Sylhet ‘BCL attack’

An activist of Jatiytabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) was killed in an attack allegedly by activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College on Wednesday evening.The deceased was identified as Towhidul Islam, a 4th year MBBS student of the medical college and an inmate of Abu Sina Hall.Witnesses said a group of BCL men swooped on Towhidul in his dormitory room around 7pm and hacked him indiscriminately, leaving him severely injured.He was rushed to Osmani Medical College Hospital in a critical condition where doctors declared him dead around 8:35pm.On information, Dr Shahriar Hossain Chowdhury, former convener of Sylhet city BNP, rushed to the hospital.He said BCL men used to beat the JCD activists in the hostel and the college authorities were informed about it six months ago. “But, they did not take any step in this regard.”Meanwhile, Ataur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said they have launched a drive to arrest the attackers.
