Young women wearing yellow saris, garlands and men in bright panjabis took to the streets across the country to celebrate Pahela Phalgun, the first day of spring, on February 14.
In the capital, hundreds thronged Faculty of Fine Arts of University of Dhaka in the morning where artistes celebrated the arrival of spring performing songs and dances at a daylong festival titled Jatiyo Bashonta Utsob 1426.
Jatiyo Bashonto Utsob Udjapon Parishod organised the festival at four venues in the capital. The event commenced at Dhaka University at 7:00am. Besides, cultural shows were held at Rabindra Sarobar in Dhanmondi, Bulbul Lalitakala Academy (BAFA) in Waisghat and Rabindra Sarani in Uttara at different times of the day.
On the premises of Faculty of Fine Arts of DU was colourfully decorated with flowers and bunting. Veteran actor Ramendu Majumdar attended the programme at the Faculty of Fine Arts of DU as the chief guest. Besides, sculptor Shafiuddin Ahmed, General Secretary of Jatiyo Bashonto Utsob Udjapon Parishod Manjar Chowdhury Sweet and others were present at the programme, presided over Vice President of the organisation Kazal Debnath.
Artistes entertained the audience with solo and group performances. The programme commenced with a classical music recital by Sushmita Debnath and her team from Bengal Porompora Sangeetalay. Besides, seasoned artistes like Mita Haque, Salma Munni, Rachel Priyanka Parris and others performed at the venue.
Artistes from popular dance troupes including Kathak Nritya Sampraday, Bhabna, Nrityam, Dhrupad Kalakendra, Nritya Nandan, Dhriti Nartanalaya, BAFA and others presented group dance recitals.
 In solos, Laisa Ahmed Lisa, Bijan Chandra Mistry, Tanjina Toma, Shimu Dey, Rezaul Karim and others rendered songs. Noted recitation artistes including Ahkam Ullah, Bhaswar Bandyopadhyay, Belayet Hossain and others recited poems. The morning session of the event ended with artistes and visitors singing Ore Grihobashi Kholo Dar Kholo.
