Jatiya Pitha Utsab going on at Shilpakala Academy

The 10-day Jatiya Pitha Utsab (National Rice Cake Festival) is going on the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy’s premises in the capital’s Segun Bagicha area. Pitha Utsab is one of the signature festivities to welcome and celebrate the spring in the capital. Jatiya Pitha Utsab Udjapan Parishad in collaboration with Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) as organised the 14th edition of the annual festival.
State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid inaugurated the festival on February 23 as the chief guest while noted cultural personality Ataur Rahman and noted dance maestro Amanul Haque attended the inaugural ceremony as special guests with BSA Director General and convener of the festival committee Liaquat Ali Lucky in the chair. The inauguration ceremony was also attended by the Jatiya Pitha Utsab Udjapan Parishad President M Hamid.
A total of 50 stalls are showcasing more than 200 types of pithas from 40 districts of the country. The pithas include Bhapa, Kuli, Ros Phul, Khejur Finni, Bhajapuri, Malpoya, Malai, Kola Pitha, Pati Sapta, Rosh Golap, Nakshi Pitha, Pantua, Ilis Pitha, Jhinuk Pitha, Puli Pitha, Dudh Chitoi and Mug Pakon.
The festival will continue till March 4 from 3:00pm to 9:00pm. According to the organisers, generally held in January every year, the 14th edition of the festival was deferred this year due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
