Iqra Ideal High School in Sylhet beset with manifold problems

Academic activities of Iqra Ideal High School in Lalabazar union under Dakshin Surma upazila of Sylhet district are being hampered due to manifold problems.
Over 550 students have long been suffering due to shortage of teachers and classrooms in the institution.
School Head master Dudu Miah said he has been facing serious problem with a total of 550 students as he does not have adequate teachers and classrooms for running the courses in the institution.
Only 8 teachers are taking classes against 12 provisioned for the school. Classrooms are also not sufficient to accommodate all the students, he said.
Managing Committee Chairman Alhaz Abdur Rouf said he had donated one decimal of land in 1996 for establishment of a school here. It was affiliated in 2003.
‘Students are facing accommodation crisis here as there are only nine classrooms in the school. But the classrooms are not enough for over 550 students,’ the chairman said.
‘Around 150 students have to attend class under the open sky as the classrooms cannot accommodate them all. Besides, there is no tube-well for supplying pure drinking water. The school also does not have library for its students,’ he also said.
World Health Day observed in districts

The World Health Day was observed in the district on Monday with elaborate programmes. District Health Department brought out procession in the town to mark the day which paraded different main streets.
Later, a discussion meeting was also arranged at the conference room Director of Sylhet Health Dr. Bobodip Lal Das as chief guest.
Chaired by the Civil Surgeon Dr. Azharul Islam, the meeting was moderated by Dr. Sirazum Monir, Dr. Emdadul Haque, Dr. Md. Shah Alam, Dr. Jakaria, Dr. Atikuzzaman, Ziaul Islam Chowdhury also spoke on the discussion. Different government and non-government organizations participated in it.
