The International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers will be observed today in Bangladesh along with other countries across the world in a befitting manner.
The International Day for UN Peacekeepers is being observed on May 29 every year across the world. The purpose of observing the Day is to underscore the importance of maintaining global peace, pay tribute to those who are involved in the peacekeeping missions
and honour the UN peacekeepers who lost their lives for peace. President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages on the occasion of the day and greeted all including the members of the armed forces and police working in the US peacekeeping mission.
Different programmes have been taken in observance of the day, said a press release of the Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) here yesterday. The day’s programmes will begin through holding “Peace Keepers Run” in the city and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam will attend it as the chief guest, the ISPR said.
A reception will be organized at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre on May 29 in honour of the close relatives of the deceased and injured Bangladeshi peacekeepers. President Abdul Hamid will attend the function as the chief guest, the ISPR release added. The BTV and BTB World will air the programme live.
A special presentation on different activities of Bangladesh in the UN peacekeeping mission will be made at the BICC in the afternoon. In observance of the day, different mainstream national dailies will publish special supplements and journals highlighting the importance of the day. Besides, different private television channels including Bangladesh Television (BTV) and Bangladesh Betar (BB) will air special talk-shows on the occasion.
