Int’l Badminton Challenge begins tomorrow

The Yonex-Sunrise Bangladesh Open International Badminton Challenge 2014, organized by Bangladesh Badminton Federation, will begin tomorrow at the Shaheed Suhrawardy National Indoor Stadium in Mirpur.
Deputy Minister for Youth and Sports Arif Khan Joy will inaugurate the five-day meet in the morning.
Seventy-eight players, including 32 women from 11 countries, will take part in the five-event meet — men’s singles, men’s double, women’s singles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles.
Participating countries are India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Iran, Nepal, Maldives, Croatia, Syria, Turkey, Sri Lanka and hosts Bangladesh.
Twenty players, including four women, will represent hosts Bangladesh in the international rating tournament with the participation of some World and Asian ranking players. Prize money of US $ 15,000 will be offered in the tournament.
General Secretary of Bangladesh Badminton Federation (BBF) Jubaidur Rahman Rana disclosed the details at a press conference at the Dutch-Bangla Auditorium of BOA on Sunday.
BBF Vice-President Hedayetul Islam Nannu, Sabbir Hasan of Roxy Paints, Noajish Ali Khan of ATN Bangla, and Tey Mee Mee and Lily Phi of the meet’s title sponsor Yonex-Sunrise also spoke on the occasion.
A budget of Tk 47,76,500 has been earmarked for the tournament, most of which came from the meet’s sponsors — Bangladesh Biman, Exim Bank, Islami Bank, Qubee, Polar, Pepsi, BD Blazers and Roxy Paints.
ATN Bangla has been named as the media partner while Pepsi as beverage partner.
