Initiatives taken to develop infrastructure facilities at Port

Initiatives have already been taken to develop infrastructure, jetties, yard and manpower and collect equipment to expedite the operations of Chittagong Port which handles 92 percent of the country’s total export-import, said Chairman of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Rear Admiral M Khaled Iqbal.
“Chittagong Port operates 24 hours a day. Steps have already been taken to repair the damaged gantry. Short term, midterm and long term plans are interlinked for sustainable development of Chittagong port,” said Khaled Iqbal while speaking at a seminar on ‘Chittagong Port: Current Status and Way Forward’ at Lakeshore Hotel in the capital on Saturday. Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) organised a seminar. DCCI President Abul Kasem Khan delivered the welcome address and DCCI director Asif A Chowdhury presented the key note paper. Joint Secretary and Member (Admin & Planning) of CPA Mohammad Zafar Alam, Naser Izaz, Hatem, Mahabub Ahmed, Hossain Khaled, M. S. Siddiqui and Mahbubur Rahman, among others, took part in the discussion. CPA Chairman Khaled Iqbal said implementation of the development plan will begin from 2019. Patenga container terminal with three container jetties and one oil container jetty will be constructed, he added. He said customs has taken initiative for scanning procedure improvement with green channel system and initiatives have been taken for procuring required equipment for port operations, a CPA sources said.
